Campus Ministry

Grade Schools

Campus Ministry, in concept and mission, begins with the young child in the elementary grades. In the sprit of hospitality, children learn about the needs of others in their community, parishes and world and through that learning, make developmentally appropriate responses to help make a difference.

Campus Ministry Goal: Through Liturgical and Prayer Celebrations, and service-learning opportunities, children will be formed intellectually, morally, socially and spiritually so that they will become, at each stage of their life, active and involved participants in their parishes, the Church and the local and global communities.

St. Joseph's Middle School

Campus Ministry at St. Joseph Middle School exists to bring students to Christ and Christ to students.  Through Campus Ministry, students are given developmentally appropriate opportunities to grow in their personal relationship with God, serve others, learn about the Catholic faith, receive the sacraments and worship together.  Campus Ministry coordinates weekly liturgies that include mass, rosary prayer services, stations of the cross and other traditional and contemporary worship. Twice a year, each student at St. Joseph's participates in a grade level retreat.  During Advent and Lent, students are provided the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation. Campus Ministry works with the Student Ministry Council to give students a chance to learn and develop leadership skills while serving the school community.  This group also coordinates charity collections and service opportunities. Additionally, Campus Ministry works with teachers, priests, youth ministers and others to provide ongoing opportunities for students to explore their faith through on-campus activities and the coordination of parish, diocesan and community events.

Xavier High school

The Campus Ministry Core Team is open to all sophomores through seniors.  Freshmen are welcome to get involved in activities, but the planning for each year's activities takes place the summer before school starts.

Campus Ministry Core team members can become involved in as many of the four ministries as they would like. The four ministries are Retreat Team Ministry, Liturgical Ministries, Service Ministries and Xtreme Faith Ministries.

RETREAT MINISTRY:  This group leads the freshman retreat as well as middle school retreats for our feeder schools and parishes.  Students are trained in being effective small group leaders and helped with preparing witness talks.

LITURGICAL MINISTRY:  This group helps to plan weekly prayer services, monthly Masses, reconciliation services and other prayer opportunities for the school community.

SERVICE MINISTRY:  This group plans school-wide service opportunities:  visits to nursing homes, food collections, mission collections, and Help Your Neighbor Day are a few examples.

XTREME FAITH MINISTRY:  This group helps to plan the monthly nights of praise and worship called Xtreme Faith.  This is an opportunity for students to grow in their faith through sharing and witnessing.  These are held on Wednesday nights once a month from 7-8:30pm.  There is a worship band and small group leaders for each night.
